I have noticed that a more and more websites are starting to ask to send notifications to you now. This is not necessarily a bad thing if it is a website that you access all the time. The problem becomes that most are rather annoying sending you notifications about every little thing on their website. Worse is sites that pose notifications as a helpful feature but in truth it is a way to send you advertisements and get around pop up blockers. Here is some helpful advise to save you a bit of headache.
"Important" Never hit allow notifications when you immediately access a web page. Most of the time they are relying on the user just clicking accept to make it "Go away" and not reading what they just allowed. Unfortunately web users have be trained to automatically click allow because it is most likely something important such as Java, Flash, or location services that the page needs to operate properly. Rule of thumb always read what you are allowing a site to do. Below is an example to show what the notification question will look like.
* Example*
If you have accidentally or intentionally hit allow notification and are being driven insane by constant notifications there is a simple fix for it. There are two methods to do this.
First method is to go to the website the notifications are coming from and click Secure
in the top left of your Chrome browser. It is green with a little lock next to it. This should drop down a list of permissions. One of them will say Notifications with Allow to the right. Click the little down arrow next the the word allow and choose block. You will be asked to reload the page after changing a secure setting. From now on the notifications will be blocked unless the sites name changes or you clear your chrome settings.
Second method is a little more involved. You can be on any website in chrome to do this. First click the 3 little dots
in the top right and go to Settings. In the top there should be a blue search settings box
. Type Notification and it should highlight in yellow where you need to go in content settings. Click content settings then notifications. All this will be highlighted in yellow if you use the search feature. There should be a list of blocked and Allowed notifications. In the allow list click the 3 dots to the right and click block. Settings-- Advanced--Policy and Security--Content settings--Notifications.
